Welcome to the website for the Vale Royal School Sport Partnership!

We aim to increase the number of children and young people taking part in P.E., Sport & Physical Activity in their school and also to create better links with clubs and activities in the local community.

Day two Ipoh
02/03/2010

An early start today so we could catch the bus from Kuala Lumpur up to the city of Ipoh. Even at 7am the temperature was severe. We had half an hour whilst waiting for our connection in KL so got the chance to take in the sights & smells of a Malaysian market - there's something quite amazing about ginger and garlic cooking early in the morning. We also got to try dragon fruit ... as refreshing as watermelon but looks like beetroot!

Our journey took us 3 hours north along the main freeway on the Peninsular Malaysia. The palm plantations eventually gave way to truly impressive mountain ranges with amazing cliffs and caves. Arriving in Ipoh is surprisingly reminiscent of our area - a real heritage in mining with industry that matches ours quite closely.

We were out of our hotel quite quickly in the afternoon and traveled through the suburbs to our welcome meeting and celebration. Looking at the houses and other buildings on the way there didn't seem to be huge differences ... oh, apart from the palm trees and bananas growing wild!

We were formally welcomed by the Education Minister, the Education Director from the British Council and local state representatives, as well as staff from our exchange schools. We were lucky in that the welcome was hosted by our school so we got the chance to meet more staff and pupils at the same time. We were followed by TV cameras all afternoon - the whole world really are watching what we do with envy! Following our meeting we had a concert and meal with presentations of gifts

On our return to the hotel we were able to visit local shops (Man Utd are everywhere here) and following dinner we came across a wonderful night market.

I know there won't be much sympathy from back home but the sleep thing is really difficult - 20 mins first night and only 5 hours second night! Our programme tomorrow starts at 6.30am, finishing by 10.30pm so will hopefully catch up following this.
