Leadership academies off to a flying start
25/02/2010

Over 60 students from 6 high schools and 2 colleges came together over 2 evenings this week to mark the launch of the SSPs Leadership Academies.

Tuesday saw the start of the academy for pupils aged 14-16 years old who will be volunteering their time to support school sport. Their leadership helps schools run inter-form and school vs school competitions, cluster festivals and one-off partnership events. Following the launch the students will form their own school academies, supporting each others development through group meetings and training opportunities,

Pupils aged 16-19 years old were then involved in the community volunteering academy which took place at Mid Cheshire College. These students are hoping to gain placements with community clubs and organisations.

Leaders from both academies will work towards the Step into Sport awards for 50 hours, 100 hours or 200 hours volunteering.

Students on each evening were inspired by Paralympian, Mark Eccleston. Mark's message was that his many successes were supported by a host of first class volunteers.
